We’re gearing up for a good ol’ Indy Coffee Guide knees up on June 30 at North Star Academy to celebrate the launch of the Northern Guide No. 2 but, until then, here’s what else is going down on the speciality coffee current

What’s been going down

New openings in bonnie Scotland

Speciality coffee is booming north of the border, with three new hangouts opening this summer. The guys at The Counter will be adding a barge (pretty cool, right?) to its stable of speciality spots, Cairngorm Coffee has just opened its second store in Edinburgh’s West End and the 6th Söderbergwill tempting passers by with a new bakery soon.

Calling all baristas …

… the Beyond the Bean bursary is back! Fancy your chances at the UKBC in 2017? The Beyond the Bean team is looking to support a budding barista through next years competition. Interested? Find the all important deets here.

Speciality coffee represent

Big congrats to the crew at The Coffee Dispensary in Cheltenham who have been waving the flag for speciality coffee, and shortlisted for the Best Coffee Shop gong in the Cotswold Life Food & Drink Awards.

What’s going on

Veracruz Espresso

‘The Santa Barbara Estate has brought us some outstanding coffees over the years, and this looks set to be the best yet,’ – with plum jam, brown sugar and honey tasty notes, it’s safe to say we’re pretty excited to try Extract‘s new espresso. Be one of the first to try it here.

Summer cupping

Harrogate’s Bean & Bud will be holding a cupping session on June 9 with Dark Woods Roasters – check out its Facebook page for the all important deets.

Now the British weather is finally getting its act together, we’re swapping the americanos for the cold brew. Glasgow roasters Ovenbird Coffee Roasters is launching a new organic chilled brew this month, find it on the website and at selected stockists.
